~*Roxanne offers a variety of workshops and lectures to inspire and entice you into the world of ribbonwork and crazy quilting... She teaches in the Santa Cruz Mountains in California, where she resides and is available to travel to quilt guilds and shops. In most classes, she offers supply kits, if desired. ~*Roxanne feels having a wonderful time while you learn encourages creativity!

~*Her Trunk Show accompanies her to each workshop and lecture, and displays many samples and hard-to-find sewing supplies, photo transfers and hand-painted ribbons and trims for sale. These items are also for sale at her storefront Boulder Creek Antiques.

~*CRAZY QUILTING*~

CRAZY QUILTING: Master this wonderful Victorian quilting technique. Use scraps of fancy fabrics...as well as hankies, lace, photo transfers, and ribbons. Embellish your seams with silk ribbon embroidery, silk buttonhole twist, beads, trims, buttons & other memorabilia. Our project can be framed, used as a pillow or quilt square. 3 or 6 hours*

VICTORIAN CRAZY QUILT STOCKING: Create an heirloom stocking while learning to crazy quilt! We will use Victorian methods to embellish our stocking: traditional silk buttonhole twist and silk ribbon embroidery seamwork, ribbon applique, and beadwork. As well as adding momentos to make it truly one-of-a-kind. 6 hours

CRAZY QUILT LANDSCAPE: Piece a landscape using soft-edge applique and "fan" crazy quilt methods. Explore a variety of fabrics to create your landscape scene. Learn free-motion quilting. Use photo transfers and momentos, as well as silk ribbon embroidery to enhance. 3 or 6 hours*

 
EMBELLISHED AMULET/SCISSOR HOLDER: Begin with a photo transfer, surround it with your favorite fabrics, then embellish with beads and ribbonwork and finish into a lovely amulet scissor holder. 3 or 6 hour class*
CRAZY QUILTED PINCUSHION: Use crazy quilting techniques to make a lovely one-of-a-kind pincushion/needlecase, with its silk and rococo blossoms and pleated French wire-edged ribbon trim. 6 hours

  ~*RIBBON APPLIQUE*~

FRENCH RIBBON APPLIQUE: Fashion roses in full bloom with luscious French wire-edged ribbons using antique ribbonwork techniques. Make small rosebuds on their stems with leaves, and even heirloom pansies with beaded and beribboned centers. Our fuchias will dangle with lovely vintage stamens. We will explore ways to collage the flowers, applique them in the traditional way onto crinoline, then fabric. They will elegantly transform a quilt, pillow, wearable art or home decor piece. 3 or 6 hours*

SILK RIBBON BLOSSOMS: Transform these dreamy hand-dyed silk ribbons into dancing fuschias, pansies and roses. Add beads, Mokuba and French ribbon leaves and frills. Applique them to crinoline to be added to a purse, quilt, pillow--or wearable art or home decor piece. 3 or 6 hours*
PHOTO FABRIC PRINT & VINTAGE BLOOMS: Select a lovely photo to be transfered onto silk, tinted like vintage photos, then embellished with a variety of antique-inspired ribbon flowers. We'll use Mokuba, rococco, silk ribbons and vintage stamen buds to surround our photo. Beautiful framed, or made into a pillow or quilt. 6 hours
ANTIQUE RIBBON FLOWERS: A day devoted to fashioning flowers, buds and leaves using unique fabrics and ribbons. Think delicate Dahlias with curved petals and antique stamens~antiqued velvet buds & leaves~hand-painted and beaded pansies~pleated & ruched blossoms from ribbons we'll handmake. Intermedaite Level~~3 or 6 hours*  

~*SILK RIBBON EMBROIDERY*~

SILK RIBBON EMBROIDERY: Learn to embroider with elegant silk ribbons, an almost-lost art. Even if you haven't worked with silk ribbon before, you'll find these stitches easy to master. Our design is a lovely cascade of roses, buds and blossoms that can be worked on an article of clothing, or fabric for a quilt or pillow. 3 or 6 hours*

MONOGRAM with SILK RIBBON EMBROIDERY: Embroider a monogram with silken threads, then embellish with silk ribbon embroidered fuschias, roses, rosebuds and leaves. Add Victorian beadwork and antique momentos to make it truly special. Great for a pillow, framed or on a quilt. 3 or 6 hours*  
VINTAGE FAN NEEDLECASE: Start with a lovely vintage fan photograph transfered onto dupioni silk, add luscious silk ribbon embroidery, seed beads and tassel, and transform it into a treasured needlecase. 6 hours
BUTTERFLIES*DRAGONFLIES & OTHER GARDEN CRITTERS: This class offers a change-of-pace from the usual floral designs of silk ribbon embroidery. We will be exploring ants, bees, dragonflies, beaded spiders dancing on their webs, ladybugs, butterflies in all their glory, and other "critters"--made with silk ribbon, embroidery floss, old jewelry and beads. 3 or 6 hours*
     
 

~*SPECIALTY CLASSES*~

ANTIQUING & PAINTING RIBBONS * FABRICS *LACES *TRIMS: Customize your projects by hand-painting & antiquing your ribbons, trims, laces and silks--with little of the usual "mess". We'll even dye a lovely tassel. Paint easy flowers on silk ribbons and fabrics and burn the edges. Transfer, then tint a favorite photo onto fabric. You can use your painted treasures to coordinate a special project. 3 or 6 hours*
BEADWORK TECHNIQUES: Explore beadwork techniques: from using seed beads as dewdrops on a rose--to luscious beaded fringe. We will make ribbon pansies & bead their centers, and make flowers (and maybe even a spider) from old jewelry pieces. You can work on drapery-weight fabric, or on a piece of crazy quilt you have that needs a sparkle. 3 or 6 hours*  
'VICTORIA ROSE'--a folk doll with a Victorian twist: Make this traditional 18" folk doll, with her simple embroidered face, reminescent of a bygone era. Then dress her in fancy fabrics or a quilted skirt and ribbon embellishments. A wonderful twist on an old favorite. Instructions for both the doll and a bunny are given, as well as the ribbon blossoms that adorn them. 6 hours  
VICTORIAN NOTIONS CASE:Create an heirloom velvet case to keep your notions~all tied up with a bejeweled ribbon!There are separate embellished pockets for your tools & layered needle holders, and even a beaded tassel with Hanah silk fuschias. We'll be inking our personal labels as they do on Baltimore Album Quilts. Class includes your label and complete instructions & pattern. 6 hours  

~*VICTORIAN COLLAGE*~

MEMORY PILLOW (OR QUILT SQUARE): Use your heirloom hankies, doilies, lace and fabric scraps to frame a photo fabric transfer. Embellish with vintage jewelry, buttons and other momentos. The second half of class is devoted to ribbonwork techniques: appliquing silk satin posies and silk ribbon embroidered roses & baby's breath. Detailed instruction on photo fabric transfers are given. 3 or 6 hours*

 
VICTORIAN COLLAGE HANDBAG: This workshop is a great chance to make an heirloom handbag, and learn ways to assemble laces, hankies & memorabilia into a Victorian collage. The emphasis will also be on beading the fringe that adorns this handbag. 6 hours

*A SPECIAL NOTE: You'll notice some classes list two choices for class hours. In general, this means the longer class offers additional techniques, as well as allowing for completion of the project. Roxanne is always happy to gear your workshop according to your preferences...

Lectures run about an hour and a half, and include an extensive slide show, "Trunk Show" exhibit & hard-to-find products for sale, as well as question~answer time.

1. RIBBONWORK TECHNIQUES--"Old & New: Enjoy viewing antique ribbonwork--and discover their modern resurgence. Many slides and samples are shown.

2. PAINTING & ANTIQUING TEXTILES: Explore many methods of personalizing textiles for your projects to customize and make them one-of-a-kind.

3. EMBELLISHMENTS!: Enhance your projects with photo fabric transfers~ribbons~beadwork~trims~heirloom jewelry~charms and maybe even a vintage glove or baby bonnet!

4. CRAZY QUILTS & SILK RIBBON EMBROIDERY: A retrospect on crazy quilting and the ladies whose lives are reflected in their quilts. The evolution of ribbonwork--and the merging of these two artforms...
